De manière générale, l’entrepreneuriat explose en France, surtout le micro-entreprenariat. En 2018, 691 000 entreprises ont été créées en France, soit une croissance de 17% par rapport à 2017. 

Les femmes ne sont pas en reste dans cette création. En effet, l’Insee révèle que quatre créateurs d’entreprise sont des créatrices et cela ne fait que croître depuis 30 ans. En effet, en 1987, les femmes ont créé 29% d’entreprises. Elles étaient 33% des femmes en 2000 et 38% des femmes en 2014. Depuis, la tendance de fond s’est donc amplifiée même s’il reste du chemin à faire pour atteindre l’égalité parfaite ! 

Voici quelques chiffres clés montrant les femmes et leur rapport à l’entreprenariat (d’après l’Insee 2015)

  • 900 000 femmes sont dirigeantes d’entreprise (travailleuses salariées ou non salariées)
  • 40% des entreprises individuelles sont créées par des femmes
  • 40% des micro-entrepreneurs sont des femmes
  • 37% des entrepreneurs individuels (hors micro-entreprise) sont des femmes
  • 25% des gérants de SARL sont des femmes
  • 17% des dirigeants salariés de sociétés (hors SARL) sont des femmes
  • 27% des Françaises sont ou bien ont été dans une démarche entrepreneuriale. C’est le fameux indice entrepreneurial. 

Qui sont les femmes entrepreneures ?

  • Les femmes sont plus diplômées que les hommes : 72 % des femmes sont de niveau Bac+5 à doctorat et MBA contre 62 % en moyenne.
  • Elles sont plus souvent primo-créatrices.
  • Elles sont aussi plus jeunes que les hommes à entreprendre. 

C’est une bonne nouvelle pour dire que les mœurs sont en train d’évoluer. La nouvelle génération risque d’inverser la tendance.

Quels sont les business favoris des femmes pour leur création d’entreprise ? 

Principalement, elles se concentrent sur des entreprises de : 

  • Consulting (soutien aux entreprises et conseils (29%)) et service aux ménages (25%). 
  • Viennent ensuite le secteur du commerce (20%), 
  • L’enseignement, le social et la santé (12%), 
  • L’industrie (6%), la restauration (2,5%) 
  • Pour terminer la construction (1%). 

On peut donc dire que les femmes restent malheureusement cantonnées à certains secteurs mais dominent certaines catégories de business dont le design, la photographie ou la traduction, où elles sont majoritaires. 

En effet, si nous faisons un parallèle avec les hommes, ils s’orientent plutôt vers le domaine de la construction, des transports, ou de la communication.

Quelles sont leurs principales motivations pour créer une entreprise ? 

Elles souhaitent en priorité assurer leur propre emploi, exercer leur profession (74% vs 66% pour les hommes) et de ne pas être dépendantes d’autrui. Les hommes créent davantage pour le goût du risque, d’entreprendre ou d’investir et diversifier leur activité. 

Quels sont leurs freins à l’entreprenariat « féminin » ? 

  • 27 % : c’est l’indice entrepreneurial, autrement dit la part des femmes françaises qui étaient dans une démarche entrepreneuriale en 2016. 
  • Elles manquent de temps pour concilier leur vie professionnelle et personnelle, 
  • Elles ont davantage « peur » de s’endetter ou de trouver des financements pour lancer leur business plan par rapport aux hommes.

Les femmes sont-elles réellement lésées dans leur carrière entrepreneuriales ? 

  • Elles sont davantage sujettes aux clichés que les hommes. D’après certains verbatim obtenus, les principaux stéréotypes sont les suivants : 
    • « Elles prennent des congés maternité« , 
    • « Elles feraient passer leur vie privée avant leur carrière professionnelle« , 
    • « Elles serait moins disponibles ou ambitieuses que les hommes« , 
    • « Elles auraient moins confiance en elles, ce qui les bloquerait pour aller plus loin« .  

Pourtant, il existe des associations pour les aider, notamment dans la création des structures. De nombreuses déclinaisons à l’échelle régionale se multiplient sur l’hexagone. Le gouvernement français peut aider aussi dans certaines circonstances (notamment pour concernant les prêts d’honneur initiative France ou pour la politique autour de l’égalité hommes-femmes). 

  • Selon l’Insee, les femmes entrepreneures gagnent en moyenne moins de 30% que les hommes. Il y a un parallèle à faire avec les grandes entreprises car peu de femmes sont à leur tête, même si ces postes clés se féminisent peu à peu. Il y a un gap encore important avant d’atteindre la parité. 
  • Leur budget de lancement est aussi plus faible. Les moyens nécessaires sont en moyenne inférieurs à 4K€ pour 41% d’entre elles contre 28% chez leurs homologues masculins. Elles sont malheureusement obligées de se tourner vers leurs conjoints ou leur entourage pour lancer leur business plan. Il existe aussi les structures dédiées à la création d’entreprise. Attention néanmoins car ces dernières exercent parfois des tarifications très onéreuses, ce qui peut rajouter de la complexité lors de la création d’entreprise.

Selon l’équipe HelpMyBusinessPlan, elles sont donc plus en difficulté en commençant leur aventure entrepreneuriale. 

Pour terminer, les femmes représentent en moyenne, la moitié des actifs. Une proportion supérieure à celle des créatrices d’entreprises classiques. Cette remarque est valable au niveau régional comme au niveau national. Les nouvelles entrepreneures sont 29% et sont inférieures à celle des femmes indépendantes ou chefs d’entreprises (34%). Cela peut s’expliquer par la moindre propension à créer des entreprises dans les secteurs très féminins ou par une répartition sectorielle des créations défavorables aux femmes. 

Quels sont les secteurs les plus favorables aux femmes pour entreprendre ? 

Les freins à la création d’entreprises sont moins nombreux dans le commerce. Le secteur « commerce, transport-entreposage, hébergement-restauration » est le plus ouvert à la reconversion professionnelle c’est-à-dire qu’il est plus facile de créer une entreprise sans expérience professionnelle dans ces domaines. Cependant, les femmes ne représentent que 31 % des créateurs. Au sein de ce secteur composite, les disparités sont importantes. Majoritairement féminisée, la restauration regroupe un quart des créations et un nouvel entrepreneur sur trois est une femme. À l’inverse, le commerce et la réparation d’automobile, les intermédiaires du commerce et certains commerces de détail sur éventaires et marchés, bien représentés dans les créations, sont peu féminisés. 

Moins d’une entreprise sur quatre est créée par une femme dans le secteur des services aux entreprises, 22 points de moins que leur part dans l’ensemble des emplois du secteur. Les créations sont concentrées sur quelques activités : le conseil de gestion, les activités juridiques et comptables, l’ingénierie et les services d’aménagement paysager. Ces deux dernières activités sont peu féminisées. Le déficit de nouvelles entrepreneures s’explique en partie par le profil des créateurs : plus âgés, souvent cadres et moins à la recherche d’un emploi que de nouveaux défis à relever. Or, le niveau de qualification des femmes s’est élevé au cours des générations. La moindre féminisation dans ces secteurs pourrait s’atténuer dans les années à venir au fur et à mesure que les générations de femmes plus jeunes et plus qualifiées remplaceront les plus âgées.

La construction, secteur le moins féminisé (12 % des emplois) regroupe 19 % des créations d’entreprises alors qu’il n’emploie que 8 % des actifs de la région. Les femmes représentent 7 % des nouveaux entrepreneurs. Ce secteur est peu ouvert à la reconversion. Alors qu’en moyenne 37 % des créateurs d’entreprises exerçaient précédemment un autre métier, cette proportion n’est plus que de 22 % dans la construction. Les créateurs sont souvent d’anciens ouvriers du bâtiment, or ces métiers sont peu féminisés.

La situation est inversée dans le secteur « enseignement, santé et action sociale » où les femmes sont majoritaires (71 % des emplois) : son poids dans les créations (10 %) est trois fois plus faible que dans l’ensemble des actifs occupés. Près des deux tiers des entreprises sont créées par des femmes. Mais cette part pèse peu dans l’ensemble. Ce secteur est peu ouvert à la reconversion. Seuls 12 % des créateurs d’entreprises exerçaient précédemment un autre métier. Les entreprises sont créées principalement dans les activités médicales (médecins, infirmiers) ou paramédicales qui demandent des formations spécifiques.

  • Dans l’industrie, le micro-entrepreneuriat féminin est élevé (47 %), boosté par la fabrication de vêtements ou de bijoux fantaisie.
  • La structure sectorielle des créations de micro-entreprises est également plus favorable avec une plus forte représentation des secteurs les plus féminisés, l’enseignement, santé et action sociale et les autres activités de services et une part plus faible de la construction. 
  • Les femmes ont plus souvent démarré leur activité que les hommes au moment de l’enquête (72 % contre 61 %), il s’agit de leur activité principale pour 37 % (contre 33 % pour les hommes).

Les entreprises « féminines » sont-elles plus performantes que celles des hommes ?

  • Les femmes dirigent souvent des structures de tailles plus petites ou modérées, 
  • Le chiffre d’affaire et le nombre de salariés sont donc généralement plus faibles,  
  • Ces entreprises sont souvent aussi plus rentables avec une profitabilité supérieure de 9% supérieures à celles des hommes. 
  • Ces entreprises sont aussi moins pérennes, 59% contre 65% pour les hommes au bout de 5 ans.
